For today’s Green Minute check out low-flow fixtures.
Sometimes, all it takes to make your home more sustainable and eco-friendly is to ‚Äútake a walk‚ÄĚ through the house and look at all your appliances and equipment that use water. While you are on your tour, ask one question ‚Äď ‚ÄúCan I replace the current item with a ‚Äúlow-flow‚ÄĚ fixture?‚Ä̬†If the answer is yes ‚Äď start making the list.
Here is a simple checklist:
Check Shower heads: Showers account for 1.2 trillion gallons of water in the US a year. Shower heads are easy to replace, inexpensive and can save a massive amount of water and money. In fact, changing the shower head can save some households $250 a year. Be sure to look for the WaterSense label when shopping for shower heads.
Check your Faucets: Once again, use the WaterSense labeling system as your guide. Updating your faucets can save 500 gallons of water a year. One simple fixture ‚Äď the aerator¬†can greatly reduce your water usage.
From our friends at the Alliance to Save Energy:
Most, if not all of these fixtures can be found at your local home improvement store and are easy to install. So, start taking a tour of your home today, and start saving money and water!
