My Daily Exercise
Okay, so obviously based on the majority of my posts, I am interested in health. I am highly conscientious of what I put in my body from the foods I eat to the meds I take. This applies to exercise, too. I participate in many aerobic activities. During the regular school year—from August to May—I walk or jog daily. I wake up early in the morning and do one or both of these aerobic activities. Sometimes I will just walk while others I will just jog, and still, other times I will do a combination of both, alternating between walking and jogging.
I choose to exercise in the morning for many reasons. I know I will do it in the morning. This is not because I am a morning person or I prefer mornings. Actually, the opposite is true. I would much rather not wake up until noon and start my day then. Alas, though, my job requires that I teach during the mornings. If I wait until after my classes, I know that I will find anything to not exercise. This is because teaching is exhausting and participating in more activity is not on the top of my list.
So, I wake up at 5:30 every day to exercise. I walk or jog at least three miles and forty-five minutes. This helps me to wake up and to consider my upcoming day. Sometimes I watch a show. Sometimes I listen to music. Other times I will just focus on my thoughts. I find that early morning exercise works best for me. It wakes me up so that I can address my day bright-eyed and ready for anything. It prepares me for my busy schedule.
I also exercise in the morning because I’m a morning shower taker. I need that morning bathing to help wake me up. If I were to exercise in the evening, I would have to take two showers a day and that just seems like a waste of resources. So, part of my morning routine is conservationism.
My final reason for morning exercise is the quiet of the morning. No one or no beast is awake in my house that early, so I can just enjoy the quiet. I don’t have to consider others’ needs. I can just walk out to my garage, stretch, and hop on the treadmill in the quiet of the morn. It’s the only beautiful thing about the morning in my opinion. No other time during the day do we have that quiet.
I exercise at home because exercise is a very personal activity to me. I don’t want to be considering my day or life with complete strangers next to me. Also, people often want to talk at gyms. When I’m in exercise mode, I do not want to talk. I do not even want to be recognized. When I was younger, I ran long distances. I would purposefully run ten miles in the direction I knew that no one would know me. I wanted the peace of anonymity. Though I no longer run long distances, I do walk and jog. I still want that peace and quiet. I can only find this at home, on my own equipment, early in the morning.
In addition to my daily morning exercise, I also hike, backpack, and fish on a regular basis. I walk every where I can. I purposefully park far from a store’s entrance and take the stairs instead of the elevator to get in even more exercise. All this is because I care about my health.
Exercise is incredibly important for our health. This is the first of several posts I have planned about exercising. But before I started in on the research and options, I thought I should share with you, my lovely readers, what it is that I do and why. If I’m going to write about exercising for our health, I certainly want the readers of redOrbit to know that I exercise and that I am not a hypocrite. Stay tuned for more on exercise!
