Hail Redskins And RG3: NFL Week 14 Results
We are getting down to the nitty-gritty of the NFL season and some teams are doing better than expected, like my Redskins. Others aren’t performing as well as one thought they would, and we are gearing up to see if our teams make it to the playoffs (for those of us who still have teams that could make it statistically). And this week was an exciting week for NFL fans across the board.
First let’s start with the upsets.
San Diego Chargers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-24. With Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger returning to this game Pittsburgh was favored by eight to win.
Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-21. The Bucc’s were favored to win by 7.5 points but two TD passes from their Rookie QB Nick Foles secured a victory for the Buccaneers.
Dallas Cowgirls, oops I mean boys, defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-19. The Bengals were favored by 3.5 points but after a 27 yard TD and a FG it is with great regret that I report that the Cowboys won.
Carolina Panthers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 30-20. The Falcons going into this game were favored by 3.5 points and their record was 10-2 compared to the 3-9 Panthers. Panther QB Cam Newton had a career best 72 yard TD run.
Minnesota Vikings defeated da Bears 21-14. The Bears were favored by three points but Vikings QB Adrian Peterson rushed for 154 yards with two TD’s.
St. Louis Rams defeated the Buffalo Bills 15-12. The Bills had a chance of the playoffs until this game which put the Bills record at 5-8 eliminating any hope of a playoff season.
Washington Redskins defeated the Baltimore Ravens 28-31. Going into this game Baltimore had a record of 9-3 and Redskins were 6-6. Skins came off a huge three game winning streak against three of their rivals, the Giants, Phili, and the Cowgirls. But what really made this an upset was the last moments of the game. With 1:44 left on the clock of the fourth quarter, Skins QB RG3 sprained his knee during a 13 yard scramble. At this time the Skins were trailing 28-20. Backup QB Kirk Cousins came in for one anticlimactic play and then RG3 returned to the field for four more plays, driving his team closer to the goal line, before he couldn’t take the pain anymore.
Kirk Cousins returned to the field and completed a TD pass to Pierre Garcon and then ran in the two point conversion successfully taking the game to OT. In OT Kai Forbath nailed a 34 yard FG to secure the victory for the Skins. RG3 showed what heart he has and Cousins proved he deserved the backup QB position. This was not only a victory for the Redskins record wise, but morale wise as well.
