Hello music lovers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only collection of all of the latest and greatest music news of the day! Let’s jump into the headlines.
Alternative band The National somehow landed a guest spot on Fox’s comedy The Mindy Project. While you eagerly await the episode’s premiere, you can check out a behind-the-scenes feature of the band in action. The link is back at Stereogum.
Spotify’s main competition, the music streaming app Rdio, announced some upgrades in their service this week. Rdio’s music player now recommends albums, playlists, and radio stations based on a user’s listening history. This will surely be a shot in the arm to Rdio and its users, and looks like it could be the start of a big push for the music company. The full story is back at The Verge.
The Killers are quietly at work prepping new music, including some new tracks included on a new Greatest Hits release. This week they released the music video for a new track of theirs entitled Shot At The Night. You can take a listen back at Stereogum.
Kanye West finally finished up releasing all four parts of his already-landmark interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. If you haven’t caught any of this man’s excited words over the past week, you should tune in for the last installment. At the very least you’ll be quite entertained. The video is at 2dopeboyz.
That interview also inspired what may be some of the most interesting and entertaining news of the week. As the story goes, funnyman Jimmy Kimmel aired a spoof of Kanye’s interview wherein children played the roles of West and Lowe. It seemed innocuous enough, but Kanye got mad. Really mad. And the rest is history. You can see the latest chapter in the feud back at 2dopeboyz
The release for Tim Hecker’s new LP Virgins is coming soon, but in the meantime the ambient producer has dropped a music video to tide us over. You can find the video for Black Refraction back at Stereogum.
And if you haven’t seen Zach Galifianakis interview Justin Beiber for his program Between Two Ferns, you need to fix that. Topics discussed include Beiber’s various haircuts, Beiber’s resemblance to a child, and Beiber’s recent behavior in the public spotlight. Start your weekend off right and check out the video back at The Line of Best Fit.
