Daily Round-Up For September 2, 2013

Sep 02, 13 Daily Round-Up For September 2, 2013

Hello devoted music fans! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s collection of all the latest music news of the day. Let’s jump right in!

If you have been feeling devoid of Lady Gaga’s catchy jams as of late, you’ll be excited to hear that this weekend the pop superstar debuted seven new songs from her upcoming album ARTPOP. She performed them all at the iTunes Festival in London, and apparently they went over pretty well. For a detailed description, as well as extensive video of the performance, you can head back to Consequence of Sound.

In a tragic, tragic turn of events, the Electric Zoo Music Festival in New York has been forced to cancel this year’s show because of two deaths that occurred during shows. The deaths are reported to be due to overuse of the drug MDMA, and related substances ecstasy and molly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased. More details can be found back at Stereogum.

After all of the hubbub that surrounded Big Sean’s Control and Kendrick Lamar’s earth-shattering verse on it, today news broke that the big man himself, Jay Electronica, would have liked to have included the track on his upcoming record, Act II: Patents of Nobility. The song would have been a welcome addition to the album, which by the way we are all desperate to hear. Check out the full story at 2dopeboyz.

Lil Wayne released his much-hyped return-to-form mixtape Dedication 5, on which he raps over beats by Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Drake, and Jay Z. If you’re interested to see if Lil Wayne still has the chops, you can give Dedication 5 a listen or a download through Datpiff. The link is back at Consequence of Sound.

Kanye West apparently played a show for a wedding in Kazakhstan. Interestingly enough, it was for the President of the country’s grandson. And the price tag was listed at three million dollars! It’s a pretty strange story, but you can’t knock a guy for getting paid, right? Be sure to check out some pictures and video from the performance back at Stereogum.
