Daily Round-Up For October 16, 2013
Hey beautiful people! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only collection of all the latest and greatest music news of the day. You miss me? Sorry for the layoff, but the Round-Up is back and better than ever! Let’s dive in to today’s headlines.
Kendrick Lamar has hit hip-hop over the head once again. At this week’s annual BET Awards, Kendrick and the rest of his crew Top Dawg Entertainment took part in a group rap session. The A$AP Mob and Action Bronson also made videos, but all of the buzz went straight to Kendrick and his firestorm of a verse. Much like he did in his legendary Control verse, the Compton rapper called on all challengers, but most notably took a few jabs at Drake. It made for some pretty inspired rapping. To see the whole performance as well as some other videos from the show, just head back to Consequence of Sound.
Kanye West has announced that his upcoming Yeezus tour will feature not only Kendrick Lamar, but also Pusha T and A Tribe Called Quest as supporting acts. If this already wasn’t the hottest ticket in music, it surely is now. Check out the full story back at The Line of Best Fit.
While Kanye West is expanding his ticket, Drake has decided to cut his. After rapper Future, who was slated to accompany the rapper on his upcoming tour, spoke negatively of Drake’s new record in an interview, Drake decided to cut him from his show. It didn’t completely pan out, though – Drake is now being sued for $1.5 million. Check out the full story at Consequence of Sound.
CHVRCHES put out their record The Bones of What You Believe last month, but they are still hot on their promotional tour supporting the release. This week they played the famous Boiler Room, and videos of their set have hit YouTube. Stereogum has linked to them all, and you can check them out at their website.
And today looks like it might indeed be one of the more extensive and beautiful days of new music we’ve seen in recent history. The biggest news is probably Sir Paul McCartney and his record New, but there are also new records out there from The Avett Brothers, Anberlin, Black Milk, Cults, Four Tet, Tim Hecker, The Head and the Heart, The Dismemberment Plan, Gary Numan, Pearl Jam, and oh so many more. You can find the full list of every album, track, and music video released today, along with opportunities to listen to them for free online, back at Metacritic.
And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here.
