Daily Round-Up For March 30, 2013
Hello dear readers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s own collection of all the latest, greatest, and most important news to hit the cycle from the amazing world of popular and independent music the world over. I hope you all had a great week! There are, as always, plenty of happenings to touch on, almost exclusively in the world of rap and hip-hop. So without any more blabbering, let us get right down to business!
The past couple of weeks have been a little bit rough for rap star Lil Wayne. Most notably, he had to be hospitalized for a series of seizures he sustained. Early rumors and speculation theorized that they were due to Wayne’s well-documented and long-lasting relationship with codeine addiction. But Lil Wayne himself has come out and said that the seizures are simply due to the fact that he has epilepsy. Later in that story Lil Wayne also mentions that the record he put out this week, I Am Not A Human Being II, is bad and that he hates it. If you’d like to read more into this story, and check out all the interesting details, you can follow the link back Pitchfork.
The other controversial rapper making waves this week is Odd Future Wolf Gang ringleader Tyler, The Creator. He is set to release his new record, Wolf, next week, but a few sites have made it possible to stream the record early. You can also read a thoughtful pre-release review by one of the writers at Stereogum. From the sound of it, Tyler has created another thick, divisive record that is sure to at least get a couple of heads to turn. To read the Stereogum review, find some details about the record and its background, or get a link to the record stream, you can follow the link back to Stereogum.
In addition to that, Tyler has also released the music video to accompany his new song “IFHY.” This song looks like it is going to try to be Tyler’s next great hit, after the amazing things that his song “Yonkers” did from his last record. You can check out the video for “IFHY” by following the link back to our friends at The Music Ninja.
And, just to make sure this Round-Up isn’t 100% rap news, check out this interesting write-up the Dancing Astronaut did on deadmau5’s sets at the Ultra Electronic Music Festival. Apparently he played the same set both weekends and absolutely no one cared. The story is at the Dancing Astronaut!
And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! And check out my other articles here. Have questions, comments, suggestions, or love?
