Daily Round-Up For March 24, 2014
Hello you gorgeous people! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only assortment of all the latest, greatest, and best music news to hit the headlines of today. Happy Monday! Let’s get right to business.
First things first, NPR killed it today. Their music section boasts a segment called First Listen, where upcoming records from popular artists are made available to stream up to a week before their intended release dates. And this week, First Listen came up with a whopping seven albums. This would be cool enough, but the specific albums offered are what made this awesome affair even more awesome. Among the albums featured are Saudade by Thievery Corporation, Salad Days by Mac DeMarco, and Here And Nowhere Else by Cloud Nothings. There are also LPs from Inventions, Saintseneca, Timber Timbre, and Nickel Creek, check it all out for yourself back at NPR Music!
Kid Cudi was performing in Brooklyn this week when he decided to premiere a couple of new tracks, one ostensibly off of his upcoming new record Man On The Moon III, and one that apparently was just lying around in the back of his iPad. Either way, he performed them both, and, luckily for us, someone was recording the whole time. You can check out the video and listen to his new songs back at 2dopeboyz.
Jay Electronica is a historically, and at this point almost comically, elusive rapper who rarely premiers new material. He’s also probably one of the most rappers out there at the moment. So now that Electronica has signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label and has the rap superstar in his corner, maybe HOV will finally help get some music out of Jay Electronica. They made a good start this week, dropping the freestyle jam We Made It together, immediately setting the internet on fire. Be sure to check it out back at The Music Ninja.
And finally, it’s time to highlight one of my favorite music blog traditions. It goes down every Sunday at Dancing Astronaut, and is sure to lift your spirits, if at least for a few songs. I’m talking of course about Sunday Morning Medicine, a playlist series by Dancing Astronaut that features soothing, chilling, and relaxing music guaranteed to wipe away any lasting effects from the weekend prior. Be sure to tune in and drop out to your Sunday Morning Medicine back at Dancing Astronaut.
And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here.
