Daily Round-Up For June 20, 2013
Hello hello! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s feature of a few of the most interesting pieces of music news of the day. Let’s get to business!
Since alt-punk group Wavves put out their new record Afraid of Heights earlier this year, they’ve stayed relatively quiet on the public cycle. Their Instagram account hasn’t slowed down but the buzz and headlines that surrounded them earlier this year have stopped. Presumably they are hard at work on tour, without much world-changing news to report. But today they finally garnered another headline by releasing a music video for the album’s new single, “That’s On Me.” You can check it out by heading back to Stereogum.
Nobody completely knows what is up with the mysterious rapper DOOM. A lot of us don’t even know what to call him at this point – he has answered to MF DOOM, Dangerdoom, and now JJ DOOM during his tenure, mostly due to his involvement with other producers and projects. Today his JJ DOOM project released a new music video for their track “Bookhead,” and *spoiler alert* not all the questions are answered. If you want to indulge in DOOM’s fiery flow and watch a neat visual at the same time, look no further than this video, which can be found at Stereogum.
One of pop music’s hottest female rising stars, Charli XCX, has announced that she is embarking on an ambitious tour of North America. There are a lot of dates stretching through October, and featuring supporting guests Kitten and Little Daylight. Charli XCX has spent a lot of time supporting other tours so it is great that she has her own tour. If you would like to look at a full list you can head back to Consequence of Sound. She might be heading to a town near you!
Punk and grunge band Metz have fallen off the face of the earth since late last year. Back then, their debut album released, Pitchfork approved, and selling well, they seemed poised to make a stake with their unique sound and conquer some indie ground. And unless I’ve been living under a rock, it doesn’t seem like there has been much buzz about them recently. Today they made a step in the right direction by putting out a music video for what is probably their new single “Get Off.” If you would like to watch the video or learn more about Metz, you can do so by following the link back to Consequence of Sound.
