Daily Round-Up For July 5, 2013

Jul 05, 13 Daily Round-Up For July 5, 2013

Hello beautiful people! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one stop shop for all of the latest and greatest music news of the day. You might be a little tired after all of the 4th of July festivities yesterday, but the Round-Up is going strong! Let’s get right to business.

Stereogum put out a very interesting opinion piece today on Kanye West, Jay-Z, and how the marketing of their new records might reflect somewhat of a change in hip-hop and even today’s music industry. It’s a very thought-provoking article. You can read it over at Stereogum.

Chelsea Wolfe has put out a new track, the first released from her upcoming new record Pain Is Beauty. A link to the track, entitled “The Warden,” can be found at The Needle Drop.

Mount Kimbie released a new video today for their song “You Took Your Time.” The song features a guest appearance from fellow musician King Krule. The video and a bit of information can be found at The Needle Drop.

And in one of the craziest pieces of new music in a while, legendary rock band The Pixies have come out with a new song! There’s even a video to go with it. Listen to “Bagboy” back at the Needle Drop.

Motorhead have unfortunately been forced to cancel all of their upcoming tour dates due to health concerns for front-man Lemmy Kilmister. Hopefully they’ll be able to get out on the road again very soon. The full story is at Consequence of Sound.

In some slightly disappointing news, pop empress Robyn has made it clear that, though she is working on new material, she is not sure if any of it will be available to release in the near future. So I guess it’s time to play the waiting game for a new Robyn record. The full story, including Robyn’s statement, is available at The Line of Best Fit.

In news that was at least somewhat unexpected, it appears that rapper Wale has nabbed the top spot on the Billboard Top 100 Albums list! His new release The Gifted sold about 150,000 copies, and beat out both J. Cole, who sold 84,000 albums, and Kanye West, who sold 66,000. It’s also interesting to note that J. Cole has topped Kanye, and Mac Miller has unfortunately dropped out of the top three. Still though, hip-hop is reigning supreme in record sales! Full story is at 2dopeboyz.

And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here.
