Daily Round-Up For July 2, 2013
Hello, you lovely readers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s humble little collection of some of the newest and coolest music news of the day. Let’s get to business!
Just like Kanye West’s Yeezus, Jay-Z’s upcoming record Magna Carta Holy Grail is experiencing a serious hype-train; all sorts of information keeps leaking from the project, in a sort of grass-roots promotional process. Today, new lyrics premieredw from new songs Tom Ford and Beach Is Better. The released lyric sheets can be found at 2dopeboyz. Also, perhaps in a less intentional piece of news, it was revealed that super-producer Rick Rubin, who appears in many of the promotional videos for the album, in reality, had nothing to do with the project. He was just there, ostensibly to talk and provide some extra promotion for the album. Pitchfork Media has that story, as reported by XXL. And in one more little piece of Jay-Z news, Magna Carta Holy Grail, despite not having been released yet, has already been guaranteed platinum status, as Samsung has already purchased 1 million copies to distribute to Samsung Galaxy users. There is a lot of complicated reasoning behind this, including an apparent change of the rules behind the scenes, but the important thing to take from this is Jay-Z has made another platinum record. All of the details are at The Verge.
Kid Cudi released a new record not too long ago, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting out some fresh new jams! The new Cudi track, Going to the Ceremony, has now premiered and can be found at The Music Ninja. Check it out! Hopefully this is a bit of a return to form for Cudi after the misstep of Indicud.
I knew The Roots were up to something! Just when the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon band looked to be slowing down with their musical output, they hit the world with a crazy announcement like they did today. According to Questlove’s Instagram account, Wise Up Ghost, a collaborative effort between The Roots and singer Elvis Costello, is finishing up production and is ready for a release this upcoming September 17th. Look for this release to follow in the same vein as Wake Up!, the record that The Roots produced with crooner John Legend. If you would like to check out the picture in question and get some more information about the release, hit the link back to 2dopeboyz.
