Daily Round-Up For July 18, 2013
Hello my dear readers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, your only destination for up-to-date music news and happenings. Let’s get to work!
Jay-Z and his new record Magna Carta…Holy Grail made a lot of news today. Firstly, Magna Cart…Holy Grail has been announced as being the second-fastest album of 2013, behind only his buddy Justin Timberlake. On top of that, the new record also broke a record for Spotify by garnering 14 million listens in one week. And to top it all off, and as we all expected, the LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 Charts. Plenty of people are listening to this album. If you’d like to read the full stories, they can be found at Consequence of Sound, The Line of Best Fit, and 2dopeboyz respectively.
Rock band Surfer Blood has announced a new tour in support of their latest LP, Pythons. It looks like a pretty extensive tour, stretching across the continental US and a little bit past it at some points. If you’d like to take a look at the full list of dates, you can do so by heading back to Consequence of Sound.
In just some strange and awesome news, it has been announced that Danny Brown is going to partner with Freddie Gibbs to create a remake of an old Outkast track. And that’s all the information I’ll give you, but if there was ever a time where you desperately needed to follow the link back to the original story, this is it! Full story is at The Line of Best Fit.
Mikal Cronin has found his way out of the underground grunge slums of music, and begun to captivate much larger audiences on higher and more popular scales. This week he was lucky enough to be the musical guest on Conan. He played Change, one of the awesome new tracks from his latest LP MCII. He sounded awesome, and you should check out the video of his performance. Oh and bonus, chick drummer! Video is at Stereogum.
And finally, in one of those don’t-ask-questions type moments, video has surfaced on the internet of the ever-lovable Vampire Weekend sending advice out to teenage girls on their various trials and tribulations. They take questions, and answer them as best they can. And as you could expect, the subjects get pretty silly. If you’d like to check out the video of this, you can follow the link back to Stereogum.
And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here. Have questions, comments, suggestions, or love?
