Daily Round-Up For August 22, 2013
Hello beautiful readers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only destination for all of the latest and greatest music news of the day. Let’s get right to business!
If you’ve been worried about the lack of news coming from dubstep producer Skrillex, never fear! The DJ is apparently planning to throw out some new music “sooner rather than later” and will premiere it at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Skrillex also said that he has enough music for two albums but simply isn’t sure how to release it. Hopefully he figures it out soon. Full story is at The Dancing Astronaut.
Matt Beringer, the man with the silky baritone from The National, has contributed a solo track to the soundtrack for Boardwalk Empire. This looks like a bit of a random move on the surface, but with a closer listen to the track one can understand his motivation. The song is actually a cover of an artist named Isham Jones. Be sure to take a listen for yourself! It’s back at The Line of Best Fit.
In a piece of interesting little history, record label Sub Pop has released the original contract that was written to sign Nirvana, way back when. If you take a closer look you’ll notice some of the glaring differences between then and now. Sub Pop got away with a lot simpler (and a whole lot cheaper) contract than one would think. You can see it back at Stereogum.
Kendrick Lamar’s super popular, super good latest album good kid, m.A.A.d. city has officially gone platinum. After generating some buzz this past week with a new verse, Kendrick was able to move an extra 9,000 copies, which drove him over the mark to 1,003,000 sold. This is a huge milestone and a great achievement for Lamar, and congratulations are in order! And in slightly related news, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have sold 998,000 copies of their record The Heist. So close! Be sure to check out the full story at 2dopeboyz.
There was a lot of noise and speculation over the past week concerning a possible *NSYNC reunion at MTV’s VMAs, but today member Lance Bass has released a statement that effectively, and tragically cut down all of those rumors. In it he makes a comment on social media and its ability to show how much a fan base loves something. Personally I’m still hoping for a reunion. The full story is at The Line of Best Fit
